Hot Desking

‘Hot desking’ means renting desk space by the day - or even by the hour - in a shared office. Hot desks are usually rented by one person looking for work space for a few hours a week, or by larger companies that need flexible office space.

The obvious advantage of hot desking is that you are not tied into a long lease. Rental terms for hot desks are usually extremely flexible and your tenancy may last just a few hours! This can be perfect for one person businesses, who need office space for occasional meetings.

Hot desks are also used by larger companies with a home based workforce, or staff based abroad. Companies can book hot desks by the day as required.

Hot desking is not for everyone. Some people find a hot desk disruptive without a regular place of work, so it may take your team time to settle into work.

There are often extra charges on top of the cost of renting a desk. Internet access may be charged by the hour, for example. Lack of privacy is also an issue for some businesses.

Hot desking can be cost effective for short periods of time.
